Q: Why can’t I play multiplayer over my cellular network?
A: In order to get the best and most reliable games for both users in a multiplayer match we only allow Wi-Fi or high quality 5G, 4G or 3G networks. The particular network technology your device is using may not be on our list of supported types.
Q: I’m having difficulty connecting to the match making server, what should I do?
A: If you’re having difficulty connecting, then check your internet connection, so try loading up your internet browser for example. If this is fine, then you might just need to be patient, and try again later and wait for more potential opponents to come online. Also make sure you have the latest version of DLS to get the best Multiplayer experience.
Q: I think my opponent is cheating by deliberately causing lag. What can be done?
A: In DLL matches, you and your opponent are connected to servers we run in the cloud. The netcode has been designed so that the quality of your opponent's connection has no impact on the quality of your experience. This means that lag switch cheats are not effective. Additionally your opponent is not informed of your network address which makes it very difficult for them to launch a Denial of Service attack on your device. If you are having problems with lag in multiplayer games, then the issue lies somewhere between your device and our server. In most cases, the problems lie in the last mile of the network connection, so make sure you have a strong connection to your router or cellular network and try to avoid congestion by making sure you are not downloading in the background or on other devices connected to the same router.
Q: Can I invite Facebook friends to play matches?
A: Unfortunately there is no way to invite your Facebook friends to play matches, but you can play local multiplayer matches if you are both on the same platform (Android to Android or iOS to iOS) and are connected to the same Wi-Fi router.
Q: Does DLS support IPv6?
A: Yes it does.
Q: Does DLS support 5G?
A: It does indeed.
Q: How much data does a multiplayer match use?
A: It can vary a lot depending on the quality of the connection and the duration of the match. An approximate value is about 2MB per match.
Q: I’m frequently failing to get into matches because the connection quality or speed is too low. What should I do?
A: DLS does not have particularly high network bandwidth demands for multiplayer, but it is sensitive to high latency and packet loss. Some internet connections, particularly cellular networks or satellite internet can have impressive bandwidth capabilities, but suffer from high latency. If matches are consistently failing due to connection quality, then you might have to try a different type of internet connection or try using your connection at another time of day.
Remember, in general Wi-Fi multiplayer matches will run more smoothly with Bluetooth disabled on your device.
If you’re trying to connect to a Local Multiplayer match (which is located in the "More" section) and you are having issues, then check the following list below:
- Check you are both on the same platform - Android to Android or iOS to iOS.
- Check both devices are running the same version of the app, this can be checked in Settings > Advanced > System Info.
- Connections are best when both of you are on the same router. If there is no router then Peer to Peer Wi-Fi is the next best thing (all supported devices have P2P WiFi on DLS)
- If running on iOS 14 or higher, check that the Local Network permission is enabled for DLS in iOS settings.
